Description
The Hermitage is a National Historic Landmark which currently operates as a house museum.
The fourteen-room Gothic Revival house was built in 1847–48 from designs by William H. Ranlett for Elijah Rosencrantz, Jr.. Members of the Rosencrantz family owned The Hermitage estate from 1807 to 1970, but the property has ties to the Revolutionary War as well. General George Washington stayed on the property with his troops, as did many other historical people of importance.
