Description

The King Hooper Mansion, home of the Marblehead Arts Association since 1938 was built by Greenfield Hooper, a candle maker, in 1728. His son, Robert Hooper, a wealthy shipping merchant, added the front section of the house in 1745. He was given the affectionate title of “King” by local seamen because of his reputation for geniality and fairness.
