Clark Norris Home
Description
The Clark Norris Home was built in 1900 as the retirement home for Samuel and Anne Clark. It is over 11,000 square feet spread over three floors and a basement, containing four bathrooms and 5 bedrooms, plus servants quarters.
Samuel Clark was a farmer, landowner, stockman, importer and breeder of cattle and horses. By the time the home was built, he was a philanthropist with a variety of business interests. Around 1912, Samuel and Anne's only surviving child, Grace, moved in with her husband, Alfred Norris, to help care for the home and her parents. There were numerous lavish Christmas and anniversary parties held in the home through the years. In 1946, Grace Clark Norris died and gave her home to the Bureau County Historical Society to operate as a museum.
Tours are on Fridays and Saturdays by appointment only.
