Frank House
Description
The Frank's 1889 mansion is built of Colorado red sandstone in Richardsonian Romanesque style and contains one of the largest stained glass windows Tiffany designed for a residence. It features hand carved Golden English Oak, a grand staircase and seven of its original ten fireplaces. The Frank House was the first house in Nebraska to be wired during construction for electricity. The Franks were responsible for the first hydroelectric power plant in Nebraska and bringing the first trolley car system west of the Mississippi to Kearney. The Frank House later became a residence for staff members of the Nebraska State Hospital for the Tubercular and is now the historic home on the campus of the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
