Robert Fulton Birthplace
Description
Internationally known inventor and artist Robert Fulton was born in a stone farmhouse in southern Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on November 14, 1765. Fulton developed the first steamboat able to navigate inland rivers, as well as many other brilliant inventions. The Southern Lancaster County Historical Society owns and maintains the Robert Fulton Birthplace, which is located on Robert Fulton Highway, Fulton Township, PA, 20 miles south of Lancaster. Visitors may tour the Birthplace, browse the kitchen garden and walk the 1-1/2 mile trail behind the Fulton house. The Birthplace is open on summer Sundays and holidays from Memorial Day to Labor Day and by appointment from September to May.
